A BETTER FUTURE FOR SCOTTISH WEST COAST FERRIES

With Scotland’s state funded ferry services in severe disarray, this detailed 39 page response to Transport Scotland’s draft public consultation on its Islands Connectivity Plan, sets out more cost-effective alternative solutions, led by best international and domestic practice. It calls for the adoption of the “Norwegian model”, used effectively for Shetland’s internal ferries and Western Ferries on the Firth of Clyde. It involves connecting island and isolated mainland communities with the national road network on the shortest feasible sea crossings by employing economical vehicle ferries with minimal “live-ashore” crewing on high frequency schedules which results in greater capacity and lower operating costs. And much much more.
