News 28 January 2004

Life here at Pedersen Consulting is certainly varied and interesting. Not long ago it was transport issues that dominated from airport development to drawing on international comparisons to model ferry service options. In recent months, two quite different and disparate strands have dominated – ICT development and Gaelic language regeneration.

On the ICT side Pedersen Consulting has worked with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to set up a new company Hi-Wide to take broadband to some of the remotest communities in the Highlands and Islands. We are also helping monitor and evaluate the impact of a partnership between HIE and Dublin based MediaLab Europe to commercialise new ICT and other applications.

Recent activity with Gaelic regeneration is closely linked with the creation by the Scottish Executive (government) of the new Gaelic development agency Bòrd na Gàidhlig (BnaG). Pedersen Consulting has worked with BnaG to set out and refine development priorities. Scots Gaelic, which is closely related to Irish, was once the dominant language in Scotland. Until recently it suffered serious decline but is now experiencing a revival helped by new Gaelic medium schools, broadcasting, etc. For details of the new Gaelic map of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man conceived and edited by Pedersen Consulting see under “Tír Cholm Cille” in CV and Highlights.

A summary of current and past work can be found under CV and Highlights
